Naseem Shah’s Post on Maryam Nawaz Steals Headlines from Lahore Qalandars’ Winning Start

Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore – A whirlwind of controversy hit the opening night of PSL 11 as a viral post from the official X account of Pakistan fast bowler Naseem Shah targeted Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz. The deleted post, which questioned why the CM was being "treated like the queen at Lord's" during her guest-of-honor appearance, sparked an immediate firestorm across social media. While Naseem quickly issued a clarification claiming his account was hacked and subsequently recovered, the PCB has since issued a formal show-cause notice to the pacer for a potential breach of his central contract and media policy.

LAHORE – The eleventh edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) kicked off with a blend of cricketing brilliance and digital drama at the iconic Gaddafi Stadium. While the defending champions, Lahore Qalandars, delivered a masterclass on the field, the opening night was momentarily overshadowed by a social media controversy involving star pacer Naseem Shah and Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.

The Digital Storm

The evening took an unexpected turn shortly after the opening ceremony. Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, attending as the guest of honor, was welcomed by PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi and introduced to franchise owners and players. However, a post from Naseem Shah’s official X (formerly Twitter) account quickly went viral, quoting a video of the Chief Minister with the caption: “Why is she treated like the queen at Lords?”

The post ignited a firestorm of debate, amassing thousands of interactions within minutes before being abruptly deleted. Recognizing the gravity of the situation, Naseem Shah issued a prompt clarification, attributing the post to a security breach.

“This account of Naseem was recently hacked but now recovered successfully,” a statement from his camp confirmed, distancing the fast bowler from the controversial remark and emphasizing that the message did not reflect his views.

Qalandars Begin Title Defense in Style

On the pitch, the drama was of a different kind as the Lahore Qalandars proved exactly why they are the reigning champions. Facing off against the Hyderabad Kingsmen, the Qalandars showcased a clinical batting performance to set a formidable target of 200.

The charge was led by the ever-reliable Fakhar Zaman, who struck a fluent 53 off 39 deliveries, peppered with 10 signature boundaries. He found able support in Mohammad Naeem, whose brisk 30 off 19 balls kept the momentum high during the middle overs. The finishing touches were provided by Haseebullah Khan, who remained unbeaten on 40, and a vintage cameo from Sikandar Raza, who blazed 24 runs off just 10 balls.

Kingsmen Crumble Under Pressure

Chasing 199 was always going to be a tall order against the league’s most balanced bowling attack. The Hyderabad Kingsmen struggled to find their rhythm from the outset, as the pace quartet of Shaheen Afridi, Haris Rauf, Ubaid Shah, and Mustafizur Rahman dismantled the top order.

Despite a few defiant swings, the Kingsmen were bundled out for 130 in their allotted 20 overs. Sikandar Raza capped off an all-round Player of the Match-worthy performance by contributing crucial wickets, ensuring a massive 69-run victory for the home side.

A Season of High Stakes

As the PSL 11 journey begins, the opening night has set a high bar for both competition and public interest. While the Qalandars sit comfortably at the top of the early standings, the "Naseem Shah incident" serves as a reminder of the intense spotlight that follows Pakistan’s cricketing icons in the digital age.
